It has been a busy summer for Mike Charuk, our resident massage therapist here at Reach. Aside from his active client base at the studio he is the head coach of the local mountain bike team. Team Squamish is a grassroots youth cycling team which focuses on developing athleticism, community leadership and pride in all it’s members.
In mid-July Mike and Team Squamish were in Sudbury, Ontario and Barrie, Ontario competing in the Canada Cup and National Championships respectively.
When he returned home to BC from Nationals he was asked to be the provincial mountain bike coach. Through this role he brought 6 athletes (3 from Team Squamish) to Sherbrooke, Quebec to compete in the Canada Games. At the Canada Games BC won two Bronze Medals: one in the Team Relay and one in the Sprint Competition.
The Canada Games are an important stepping stone in long term development for Canadian athletes. Previous winners at these games have gone on to be Olympians for Canada down the road in their careers. Two great examples of this are Steve Nash, an accomplished professional basketball player as well as an Olympic competitor for Canada, and Geoff Kabush, a 3-time Olympian in mountain biking.
Even though Mike has been wearing many hats this summer he will be back to work soon here at Reach Physio. We are excited about all the work Mike has been doing in the community – locally as well as nationally – and are proud to have him as a part of our team.
Be sure and call or come in to set up an appointment to see Mike!
