Is it time to lift heavier?
Do you feel out of shape or feeble since your injury?
Are you avoiding lifting too much or being as physically active as you were before?
Does it seem like Theraband exercises won’t quite get you to the place you want to be?
Would you like to feel confident about lifting or moving with more vigour?
You’ve probably heard the bad news…when we stop using our muscles, they tend to weaken. But don’t despair! Muscle mass can be gained back, it simply requires gradual LOADING!
After injury, many people feel confused about to how to start getting their strength back.
If you’re a little weary of jumping back into physical activity ALONE, we’ve created an introductory course for you.
FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH FOR BEGINNERS
This 4 weeks course is being lead by Alex Ackerley of Nexus Fit, an exercise specialist with many years of training experience. We’ve combined forces to help you get moving SAFELY. We will introduce progressive movements that challenge you (a little bit) every week.
Our goal is to empower you to move in a variety of ways and regain confidence in increasing the loads. If something is too challenging, a physiotherapist is onsite to modify and adjust the movements as needed.
PROGRAM starts Tuesday October 30th, 2018 at Club Flex
38255 Cleveland Avenue, downtown Squamish.

FAQ’s:
How is this different from going to physio?
We will have access to a variety of weights (> 10lbs) and exercise tools that are not available at the clinic.
We won’t be focusing solely on your injury but helping the whole body move again, sometimes there isn’t time for that at physio.
The group setting of a class is a community of similar people all recovering from injury.
How is this different from hiring a personal trainer?
The main difference is the group support of being in a class with people in various stages of rehabilitation. There’s a feeling of “we’re all in this together”. Maybe you’ll meet a future workout buddy!
How is this different from going to a general fitness or bootcamp class?
It will be physiotherapist supervised, and as such, my be reimbursed by your extended health plan as “group physiotherapy”.
There is no pressure to compete, or keep up with others. It will be low-key.
It is focused on very basic/useful movements with multiple muscle groups at once, like squatting, lifting from the ground, pushing, pulling and carrying weight.
The knowledge built with these basic movements can be taken to any group setting afterwards. We hope to help you feel capable and knowledgeable whether you continue on your own or in classes.
How will I know if I’m ready for class?
We suggest you ask your current physiotherapist if they think you are ready. If you’ve been away from physio for a couple months or more, it would be advisable to book a screening session. It will take about 20 minutes, for Susan to run you through a checklist the week before class. This is included in the cost of the program.
