Karen Ogilvie
Physiotherapist
Karen met with her career as a physiotherapist earlier than most. As a National level Synchronized swimmer, from the age of ten, she got to know her profession “from the other side” quite extensively. While the seed was planted early, it wasn’t until she was completing her Biology degree at the University of British Columbia that Karen’s chosen career found her again. After volunteering with numerous sports teams, and working with many health care professionals, Karen was drawn to physiotherapy once again, and completed her second degree at UBC.
After graduation, Karen worked at GF Strong; helping individuals with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries return to communities throughout British Columbia. She then set off to see some of these communities herself! Taking on various opportunities to work in northern BC, Karen was able to continue her interest in neurological rehabilitation, while returning to her original passion, of orthopedic physiotherapy. After two years of traveling to Squamish every available weekend; bringing leisure to her life, Karen decided to bring her life to her leisure; and Squamish has been home ever since.
While Karen’s sporting career started very focused, it has ballooned since then. Climbing may have been the initial attraction to Squamish, but the mountain biking, running, hiking, yoga, and skiing has kept Karen passionate about her active lifestyle, as well as about physiotherapy. Amidst the sports injuries, Squamish is such a diverse community, allowing Karen to maintain a broad perspective on rehabilitation; from acute ankle sprains, and reconstructive surgeries to headaches, and chronic back pain. Since graduation, Karen has taken courses in Acupuncture, Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) and Manual therapy; continuing to incorporate new techniques, and research, to provide a focused approach to looking and treating the body as a whole.
Karen is very excited to join Sue, and Reach Physiotherapy, and looks forward to continuing to “meet and treat” the community of Squamish.
