Registered Physiotherapist BKin MScPT CAFCI
Angela Newton, originally from Rossland B.C., first became interested in becoming a physiotherapist when she was 14 years old. After tearing her anterior cruciate ligament in a ski race, she attended physiotherapy for five days a week until she was back on her skis several months later. At the time, she thought physiotherapy might be a good career match for her in the future. She went on to obtain an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary while playing varsity field hockey there. While playing field hockey, she then tore the ACL on her other leg. After a second time in intense knee rehabilitation, she realized that physiotherapy was the career path she wanted to follow. She worked for one year as a Kinesiologist at a sports clinic in Calgary, and was then accepted into the Master’s of Physiotherapy program at the University of Alberta. She graduated in 2005. With considerable experience as a client in private practice physiotherapy, she became most interested in this area of practice. She started working in private practice in Calgary, and realized that she missed living in a small mountain town, like the one she grew up in. She moved to Squamish in 2006, and has been working in private practice ever since.
Life in Squamish
She has diversified both professionally and recreationally since living in Squamish. Career wise, she has obtained her acupuncture certification, as well as a certificate in spinal manual therapy from Australia. When not practicing physiotherapy, Angela can often be found rock climbing or kite boarding, two new pursuits she has taken up since moving here. She also enjoys hiking in the mountains with her husky dog, Koda, and is an avid skier and mountain biker. Angela looks forward to continuing to expand her knowledge in private practice physiotherapy, and has a keen interest in the rehabilitation of many types of injuries, including acute and chronic knee, and shoulder and spine problems. She looks forward to meeting and working with new clients in Squamish and helping them achieve optimum health!
